Before EVM Machine

There are about 911 Million registered voters in India . When votes used to vote through ballot papers, crores of Ballot papers are required, Millions of trees are cut and thousands of people are needed to count votes.

And in India, where election are held every few days, the process becomes a bit complicated. When the process is repeated over and over again, Millions of ballot papers spent by the government are wasted. Yes, It takes a lot of manpower, and a lot of time is wasted while counting.EVM

To get rid of this problem, EVM Machine was introduced, But even at the time of using it, the voice started rising that “Still there are shortcomings in it, it still has some drawbacks. still it is not complete”.

VVPAT was also added along with EVM machine in the 2014 National Elections.

What is VVPAT ?

When VVPAT was not in this process, We used to press the button in the EVM machine, The Light would turn ON, and you would believing that your vote has gone to the right place. After introducing VVPAT, VVPAT is also kept along with EVM machine at the time of voting.

The advantage of this is that when you press the button on the EVM to vote, you see a slip on the VVPAT , on which the name and election symbol of the one you have voted for are mentioned.

By using VVPAT, we not only get transparency but also helps in cross checking so that double verification is also done. When counting of votes is done in both the machines, then the count of votes in both the machines should be same.

You can not take this slip home. This is only for you to see, the party for which you have voted, that vote has been deposited in the Election account of the same party or the same person. After that the slip goes back to the machine. You can say that VVPAT was used to make the voting system transparent.

Now by adding VVPAT, there are 3 machines at the tie of voting.

1. EVM (Right)

2. VVPAT (Middle)

3. Control Unit (left)

Voting Procedure

When a person comes to the voting room to vote, the authorised officer presses the Button in the Control unit , after the Green Light starts burning in the EVM machine, then the voter can cast his vote by pressing the button in front of his Favorite Candidate’s name. You can vote pressing it.

The advantage of this control unit is that the person voting is not able to vote for his favorite candidate more than once.

These three machine was interconnected, no other device or machine can be connected to it.

These are also called Standalone Independent Machines. This means there is no WI-FI, Bluetooth, Internet connectivity or any other frequency receiver in these machines. so that no one can tamper with it from a distance.

These machines are completely Indian products manufactured by Bharat Electronics Ltd. and Electronics Corporation Of India Ltd. It has self diagnosis system and tamper detection system, due to which this machine is completely secure.

The advantage of tamper detection system program is that when there is any tampering or correction at any stage in the election process, it can be easily detected.
