Government Scheme (JSY):
The Government of India brings out schemes out schemes for time to time for the convenience of the citizens. Which provides the financial assistance to common citizens in their difficult times.
Some such schemes are also run, under which, keeping in mind the health of the newborn and pregnant women, those women are provided essential facilities before and after delivery.

Janani Suraksha Yojana : JSY
Introduction:
Keeping in mind the economic condition of poor women the central government started this scheme on 12 April, 2005. Which has been named as “Janani Surakhsha Yojana”.
This scheme was launched by Prime Minister Shri Narender Modi under the National Health Mission. under the JSY scheme, this scheme was started to promote institutional breeding to reduce the mortality rate of mother and child. To enable the delivery of the child by trained Midwives/Nurses/Doctors and to save the mother and newborn babies from pregnancy related complications and death.
Cash assistance is provided is provided to pregnant women pre-natal and post-natal incentives to encourage women for institutional breeding.
Purpose of Implementing the Plan
JSY is a 100% centrally sponsored scheme and provide cash assistance for delivery and post-delivery care. The success of this scheme is determined by the growth rate in institutional deliveries among poor families.
In terms of statistics, during 2004-2006, the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) in India was 254 per 1,00,000 live-births with wide geographic variations, Which dropped slightly to 212 per 1,00,000 live-births in 2007-2009 after the introduction of the Janani Suraksha Yojana ( JSY) scheme

The main objective of the JSY scheme is to encourage poor pregnant women to give birth in a registered health institutions. Cash assistance is given to pregnant women to pay for childbirth and to provide incentives for registering in a hospital to give birth.
Benefits of the scheme:
The benefits/ Incentives received from this scheme have been divided by the government into two parts for URBAN and RURAL areas.
1. Low Performing State (LPS):

The state or regions which have low rate of institutional delivery have been put in the LPS category.
LPS category covers the states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar , Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Rajasthan, Orissa and Jammu as demonstrated by the state of Kashmir.
2. High Performing State (HPS):
the HPS category. All the states have been included in the HPS category except the LPS category states.
State or territories that have a high rate of institutional delivery are put in the HPS category.
- On the basis of these LPS and HPS category, the cash payment of incentive amount is directly transferred to the beneficiary’s bank account. Which are following.:

For Women Giving Birth At Home :
Since the main objective of the Janani Suraksha Scheme (JSY) is to promote financial institutional delivery but this scheme has not completely ignored the women who want to give birth at home with the help of Anganwadi or ASHA doctor. Such candidate women also get Rs 500/- will be given financial assistance.
JSY Beneficiaries:
For BPL category:
All those pregnant women from urban and rural areas who are below poverty line can register themselves in JSY scheme.
Age Criteria :
All those pregnant women whose age is 19 years or more are eligible to get registered under JSY scheme. Women below 19 years of age cannot register themselves.
Only For 2 Children
The benefit of this scheme will be available only till the birth of two children. If a women gives birth to 3rd child, then she will not be able to get the benefit of this scheme.

You can get the related form from Anganwadi Centers or Asha Centers
- Enter all the details asked in the application form.
- Attach all the mandatory documents with the application form.
- Submit the application form along with all the mandatory documents to the nearby Anganwadi centres or Women’s Health Centers.
