On June 28, 1971, in Pretoria, South Africa, a child was born to Errol Musk and Maye Musk, who we all know today as Elon Musk. At the age of 24, He left his studies at Stanford University to start his First Business.

You will be surprised to know that when he was only twelve years old he’s already a better programmer than his teachers.

• Musk and his brother Kimble founded Zip2, an internet company, in 1995. Compaq bought Zip2 for US$307 million, of which 7% went to Musk, amounting to $22 million.
• In March 1999, founded X.com, an online payment platform. He invested 10 million in it.
  Which later merged with a company named Confinity, which had its own payment platform named PayPal.PayPal’s early growth was driven by a promotion that offered new customers money when they signed up. PayPal was acquired by eBay in October 2002 for $1.5 billion. 165 million of that amount went to Musk
• He started SpaceX in 2002 (Space Exploration Technologies Corp.). Until 2021, he remains the company’s CEO and also holds the position of chief engineer.
• In 2008, he became the CEO of Tesla Company. Tesla first made an electric car in 2008 called the Tesla Roadster.

Elon Musk is working to revolutionize transportation on Earth  through electric car maker Tesla  and in space, through rocket maker SpaceX.

In 2012, Elon Musk saw a problem.

He wanted to build a city on mars, but he didn’t have the money.

After 3 years of brainstorming, he announced the solution to his problem : STARLINKSTARLINK

 

 

What is Starlink-Satellite ?

Starlinks consist of thousands of mass-produced small satellites in Low Earth Orbit, communicating with designated ground transceivers.  While the technological potential of satellite internet service covers most of the global population.

Musk’s goal with SpaceX is to build a city on Mars. But it will be very expensive. How to get the money for it?

No Investor will give money to make a city on Mars. Elon needed to find the money himself.

SpaceX was making good money from its cheap and powerful rockets. But it wasn’t enough a build a city on Mars.

Space Rockets isn’t a very big market. Elon needed to find a very big market. A trillion-dollar market. He choose Internet market.

His Idea was to use SpaceX Rockets to launch satellites  in space and provide internet on Earth.

Right now, providing internet is very expensive and time-taking.

Internet companies spend hundreds of millions of dollars and many years to lay an undersea cable, to provide internet.

Starlink will do this much faster, and much cheaper.

Starlink’s Aim

The idea behind Starlink is to provide broadband level internet globally without using fibre or optical wires. Millions of people around the world do not have access to high quality Internet, because wires cannot be physically accessible everywhere. Starlink aims to solve this problem by providing internet through satellite.

Why Give Preference To Starlink

• Launching Starlinks satellites on SpaceX’s  Falcon9 rocket is 1000 times cheaper than a normal commsat launch.
• They can launch hundreds of satellites at a time and use mass production to make cheap satellites.
• Once you send the Starlink in orbit, it starts beaming internet. it takes one week to cover its launching cost. The remaining 299 weeks are pure profit.

Launches:

In January 2015, Elon Musk announced project STARLINK.

4 years late, on 23rd May 2019, the first batch of Starlink-Satellites (60) was launched the Falcon 9 rocket.

Right Now there are close to 2300 satellites. On 15 Oct 2019, The United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) filed a filing on behalf of SpaceX the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to arrange spectrum for 30000 additional Starlink-Satellites to complement the 12000 Starlink-Satellites already approved by the FCC.

 

When Starlinks are ready. it will provide internet 100 times cheaper than its competitors.

Billions of Underprivileged humans will be able to access the internet, thanks to STARLINK.
